Garden Design

What's Involved?

FIRST THINGS FIRST

When you contact Blue Daisy about our garden design services, we’ll arrange a no-obligation, free initial design meeting online with Nicki Jackson, our garden designer.

During the meeting we'll find out more about you and your garden project; your initial ideas and wants for your outdoor space and about your garden.

We'll show you some examples of our work and explain how the Blue Daisy Garden Design Service works so you know what you can expect from us. There will also be ample opportunity for you to ask us as many questions about our service as you’d like to.

Following this first meeting, we will submit a written proposal to you for the design element of your garden.

Survey And Analysis

Once you've accepted our proposal we'll get your garden design project booked into our work schedule and instruct a surveyor on your behalf.

The surveyor will produce a topographical survey of your garden which helps us understand the undulations of the land as well as its boundaries and features and how they relate to each other spatially.   It is this survey that all of your garden design drawings are based upon.

In the meantime we'll get to know all about you and your garden.  We'll delve deeper into your ideas and try to understand how you and your whole family (including pets!) want to use your garden space.  We'll identify your 'must haves', 'would likes' and 'could live withouts' amongst other things; and analyse your garden by spending time in it, before then producing a client brief for you to approve. It is the client brief that governs the decisions we make when designing your garden.

Schematic

We take everything we’ve learned so far, do some further research, and then start developing ideas for your garden. We consider things like layout, materials, colours, feel, aesthetic and more.

We then distil those ideas down until we have one or two really strong schematics (example shown left) for your garden which we then present to you for discussion and approval.

Outline Plan

We work up your approved schematic to Outline Plan (clients often call this the Master Plan or Garden Design Plan) – a 2d scaled drawing of your garden design which we present to you along with visuals that help bring your design to life. We’ll also get an initial estimate from one of our trusted landscapers for the build phase of your garden design.

Design Detailing

When we create your garden design plan, we also provide you with some initial detailing documents that will help the landscaper layout and build what we have designed for you, but these documents are only a first level of detail; very useful indeed, but they don’t ‘cover’ everything by any means.

Design detailing documents are the next level. These are the documents that look at the details of your garden design in depth, and as such the work involved in them can’t be estimated until your outline plan has been completed.

Design detailing work may include, but isn't limited to planting plans, construction drawings (example shown right), lighting plans, irrigation plans and more.  The complexity of your outline plan and the challenges of your site will have a bearing on the level of detailing required, as will your own needs - for instance most garden design clients opt for planting plans for their new garden too.

Build Phase Site Visits

We remain involved throughout the build phase of your garden design providing support to both you and your chosen landscaper.

We conduct regular site visits during the physical landscaping phase of your garden in order to monitor your garden design build to ensure it stays true to your Blue Daisy garden design plan.  We are a resource to both you and your landscaper throughout this process available to answer questions, provide solutions to unforeseen circumstances, amend plans if required, and more.

Post-Build Services

If planting design plans are included at the detailing stage of your project we can also source and supply plants for you as well as offer planting services through the Blue Daisy Gardening team.
