New Build Transformation

Bland Blank Canvas

Our client had recently moved into a new property with a typical new-build bland, odd-shaped, lawned garden with poor drainage and an unusable patio. She desperately wanted something lovely to look out on and be in, preferably feminine, peaceful and neat. She wanted more than one area to sit out in, preferably away from overlooking neighbours. She also needed space for a shed, liked a lawn and preferred curves.

Strong Circular Design

We created a strong, curved design, using intersecting circles to create different zones for lawn, patios and planting. A feature pathway around a central lawn joined 3 different sitting areas, and also allowed our client winter access to her new 'Posh Shed' without the need to walk across wet grass. Patios provide ample space for dining table and chairs as well as sitting with a good book and a coffee in more secluded spots, away from overlooking neighbours.

Calm and Blended

Warm materials are used underfoot - responsibly sourced Indian sandstone for patio areas with clay pavers to blend for the feature pathway. Lighting is subtle and understated. Two large Corten steel screens are used as a backdrop to planting and as a foil to potentially overbearing, boundary-forming garage brickwork. Planting is romantic, blended and calm in shades of purple, soft pink and blue. Potted lollipop Bay trees (Lauris nobilis) frame the shed and three multi-stem cherry trees (Prunus serrula) will grow to provide height and privacy across the back boundary fence line.
